In its traditional past year review, PC Magazine/RE announced DBMS "Red Database 2.0" to be the "Product of the year" in the "Application software" nomination.
"Russian software: Harvest 2007" covers not only newly developed items, but also released versions of familiar suites, including application software programs, system utility programs, and entertainment software. (the end of the short version)
"Suite developers practice rather an unusual strategy: "Red Database 2.0" includes a modified version of Firebird and a number of ad hoc components. On the one hand, this allows the authors to offer users a guarantee of stable and safe operation; on the other hand, this promotes development of the very Firebird (extensions of the "Red Database 2.0" core are translated to the 'donor' product). There are a number of ad hoc suites created ("Red Warehouse", "Red Control") apart from the DBMS. On the whole, this is a successful example of combining Open Source with ad hoc developed items."
