On August 15th, 2007 Red Soft Corporation released the first ever Russian enterprise open source DBMS – DBMS "Red Database", v. 2.0. The distribution kit of Red Database 2.0 Open edition is available for free download and installation from our web site.

The Red Database kernel is based on Firebird 2.0 - one of the best established, well-known and globally widespread open source DBMS in the world, which is used in solutions of various scale: from the built in hardware systems and solutions for small businesses to IT systems of largest transnational corporations with databases up to tens of terabytes and tens of millions transactions per day.

Red Soft Corporation supports its own source code of all Red Database components, including Firebird 2.0. We engage the best resources to release new versions, develop the functionality, perform testing, and render DBMS maintenance and support services. Red Database includes all appropriate components for DBMS operation, including original documentation.

Red Database is the most high-performance, reliable open source DBMS with one of the most up-to-date architectures. It features the following technical advantages:

  • Support for all major platforms and operating systems (including: Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista, Linux family, BSD Unix, IBM AIX, HP-UX, Sun Solaris, etc.);
  • Support for 64-bit systems;
  • Support for multi-CPU and multi-core hardware platforms;
  • High performance – Red Database directly competes with such DBMS as Microsoft SQL Server 2005, Oracle 10g, PostgreSQL 8, offering more flexible prices;
  • Database can be stored in one individual file;
  • Capability of hot backup and incremental backup (when only an updated part (as compared to a previous backup) of a database is backed up rather than the whole database), including procedures using hardware backup solutions;
  • Bridging modules are available for almost all available development environments (drivers for ODBC, JDBC, C/C++, C#, Java, Delphi, PHP, Python, Perl, VB, etc.), deliverables of module tests, stable operation guaranteed;
  • You can work in the local mode embedded in the software as DLL without individual DBMS installation and setup, including support for embedding into a Java Virtual Machine;
  • Backward compatibility with databases of previous Firebird versions;
  • Multi-version architecture;
  • Compliance with most requirements of ISO/ANSI SQL;
  • Modular architecture;
  • Low-end equipment requirements which support utilization for small databases and solutions;
  • Extensive capabilities to extend DBMS functionality through modules;
  • The kernel originally based on Multimedia Graphics Architecture (MGA) (which appeared in other DBMS of later versions, e.g., MS SQL Server 2005, PostgreSQL 6.5);
  • Full compliance with the principles of Atomicity - Consistency - Isolation - Durability (ACID).
